Classics, Ancient History, Religion and Theology
About us
Welcome to the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Religion & Theology (also known as CAHRT), a centre of excellence for research and teaching. Our expertise spans a wide chronological, geographical and methodological range and is noted for its interdisciplinary approaches, with close links to related fields including history, sociology, archaeology, philosophy, visual arts, and linguistics. Our research is widely acclaimed for its commitment to engagement with today’s global challenges, such as environmental sustainability, migration, mental health, social justice and ethical living, and for its collaboration with the arts and charity sectors. We attract high quality students from the UK and around the world who enjoy a stimulating and productive learning environment, and we are well-known for our lively and supportive community of staff and students as well as our innovative teaching.
Inclusion and culture
Everything that we do within our department is underpinned by our shared values of inclusion, supportive culture and positive wellbeing. It is really important for us in CAHRT that we demonstrate these values in the way which we undertake our teaching and design our programmes, undertake our research and engagement activities and the ways in which we work together collaboratively. We foster a transparent and fair approach in which all staff and students are encouraged to take collective responsibility for positive contributions to our culture.
