I ama Professor of Classics, researching and teaching in the areas of ancient literature and culture, ethics and exemplarity, the history of sexuality and classical reception.
I am a Professor of Middle Eastern and Caucasian Christianities. My primary research interest is the history, art, architecture and archaeology of the Middle East and Caucasus, with a particular interest in the countries of Syria and Georgia.
I joined the University of Exeter in 2013 and I am currently Senior Lecturer in Ancient Philosophy. My interdisciplinary research agenda builds bridges and establishes connections between the history of metaphysics and the revival of metaphysics in contemporary analytic philosophy. At the centre of this research agenda is Aristotle’s metaphysical thought and its reception in the Middle Ages and in modern times.
I am a Senior Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History. My main interests lie in Graeco-Roman medicine, especially of the Hellenistic and Roman periods. One important strand of my research looks at the ways in which medicine and philosophy interacted and influenced each other. I also have continuing interests in how Greek papyri from Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt can contribute to our understanding of ancient medicine.
Jonathan Hill joined the Theology and Religion department as Lecturer in Philosophy of Religion in 2013. He was previously a researcher at the University of Oxford, after completing his PhD in Philosophy at the National University of Singapore.
I oversee the department’s research and teaching collaborations with our global partners. As Senior Research Fellow in Digital Humanities I specialise in Latin epigraphy and in applying digital technologies to the analysis of inscribed materials.
Esther D. Reed is Professor of Theological Ethics. Esther's research and teaching are broadly in theological ethics and moral philosophy, with particular focus on (un)just war reasoning and weapons control, prospects for jus in silico, and the future of military ethics.
I am a Senior Lecturer specialising in Latin language and literature, Roman cultural history, cognitive semantics, and cultural anthropology. I am also active in the area of Digital Humanities, currently leading an international project that seeks to create an interactive, extensible on-line Latin lexicon.
I am an ancient Greek historian and my research interests include: Polybius and Hellenistic historiography, Philip V of Macedon and the Antigonid kings, ancient Macedonia, the coming of Rome into the Greek East, and leadership, change and resilience.
I am an Associate Professor in Classics and Ancient History and teach predominantly classical literature and the ancient languages. My interest in inclusive and innovative pedagogy underpins my own teaching practice, inspired by my research on Classics education in both historical and contemporary contexts.
I have worked in banking for over 30 years and more recently I was the Manager of CMRI (Centre for Metamaterials, Research and Innovation) within Physics. I bring over 20 years of line management experience to this role as well as risk and compliance expertise, problem-solving, health and safety knowledge and many other skills obtained throughout my years in banking.
I'm interested in the disciplinary politics of Classics - why and how it has come to be as it is, its borders and exclusionary tactics - as well as critical-theoretical approaches to ancient Greek texts, especially in the precincts of decolonial, postcolonial, and queer thought.
