Alexis Bradford
Postgraduate Researcher
Theology and Religion
I am a PhD candidate in Theology and Religion. My research focuses on the power and gender dynamics which lie behind acts of anthropophagy (people-eating-people) in biblical texts, both literal and metaphorical. I'm particularly focused on how the eucharistic ritual challenges first-century hegemonic masculinity by casting Jesus as the "eaten" party, given that this is typically the role ascribed to women. Beyond my PhD research, I am broadly interested in gender and sexuality, food in biblical texts, reception history, and the intersections of Theology and pop culture.
I am currently co-editing a volume on Taylor Swift and Theology and writing a number of entries on the Bible and films for De Gruyter's Encyclopedia of the Bible and its Reception.
